Mirrors and shelves — by the rules of a house with kids
Mirrors: full-length for the bedroom or entry — two people, into studs. Anything over 50 pounds is a structural fixing. A mirror simply leaned against the wall in a house with kids is not a style — it is a risk: we secure it with an anti-tip fixing and the look stays the same.
Shelves: books for the kids, trophies for the athletes (a sporting city), seedlings for the kitchen — into studs, loads calculated. Trophies are heavier than they look.
Walls: ranches — standard drywall, fast. Old Torrance — lath: studs only, by detector. Hollywood Riviera — anything hung on an open veranda gets stainless hardware: the breeze is close.
