What we do in Torrance
The price is known before we leave the base. We do not bill by the hour and never re-quote on site because a job ran long. Minimum order $69.
A city where furniture gets assembled for the kids
Torrance is a family suburb in the best sense: schools people move here for, yards, two-car garages. And it shows directly in our orders: half of our visits here are children’s furniture. So let us start with what matters most.
Anti-tip is not an option
A dresser, a tall wardrobe, a bookshelf, a shoe cabinet — everything above waist height in a house with kids must be anchored to the wall. In the US this is the subject of a federal dresser-stability standard (the STURDY Act): furniture tipping onto a child is not a scare story, it is statistics. The anti-tip strap ships in nearly every dresser box — and is almost never installed.
We install it always, at no charge. In Torrance’s post-war homes it is easy: drywall, studs on standard 16-inch centers — the anchoring takes ten minutes and holds for good.
Bunk beds — every bolt torqued
The second most common kids’ item here. A bunk bed does not loosen all at once: under-torqued through-bolts "breathe" with the child’s every move and walk out within a month or two. We torque everything to spec, test the ladder and rails under load, and repeat the rule people forget: the top mattress can be no thicker than the rail allows — at least 5 inches of rail above the mattress.
Why we work fast in Torrance
The city’s core is single-story 1950s–60s ranch homes on slab foundations. For assembly those are near-perfect conditions: level floors, no stairs, wide openings, predictable drywall. A dresser that takes an hour and a half in an old house with lath stud-hunting goes up here at the low end of the estimate.
Two exceptions we know well:
Old Torrance. The historic center — the city was laid out in 1912, and homes of that era hide lath behind the plaster. Anchors do not work there: everything wall-mounted goes only into studs that sit off the modern standard. We arrive with a detector and the right hardware.
Hollywood Riviera. Slopes above the ocean: floors with a lean (casework gets shimmed to level), and on the terraces a sea breeze that eats impure outdoor hardware within a season. For patio sets we check the kit for stainless.
The garage is a second apartment
A two-car garage is the Torrance standard, and half the city’s garages work as storage, workshop and gym at once. We assemble and anchor:
- Shelving and storage systems — anchored to the wall: a loaded rack in a seismic zone must be secured, in a garage especially (the car is right there).
- Workbenches and work tables.
- Tool cabinets.
A tip from practice: do not put heavy things on the top shelves of a garage rack. The top is for the light and rarely needed, the bottom for the heavy. That rule saves both the rack and whatever is parked beside it.

Frequently asked questions
We have two kids. What actually needs anchoring?
Everything above waist height: dressers, shelves, wardrobes, the shoe cabinet, the TV. We will come and show you on the spot what is anchored and what stands "on its word of honor".
Will you assemble a bunk bed and check the old one?
Yes. Re-torquing someone else’s assembly is quick work — we do it in the same visit.
Garage shelving on a concrete wall — do you anchor that?
Yes, into the concrete. It differs from drywall — just mention in advance that it is a garage wall.
How long does a whole bedroom take?
A bed, a dresser and two nightstands — usually 2.5–3.5 hours in one visit.
Do you assemble IKEA?
Yes, IKEA and any other flat-pack.
