The city of vertical houses

Redondo Beach has a signature housing format that shapes our work here more than anything: narrow townhomes, two to a lot. For decades the old beach bungalows came down and two three-story townhomes went up in their place — and by now it is probably the most common house type in the city.

The floor plan is vertical: garage and entry below, living room in the middle, bedrooms on top. Which means every bed, every dresser and every wardrobe travels up a narrow internal stairway with a turn.

What we know about those stairways after dozens of carries:

Delivery dumped the boxes in the garage (the usual story)? We carry them up and assemble — included in the visit; just tell us it is a townhome.

The beach side of life

Riviera Village, the Esplanade, the harbor: patios and balconies with a view are part of the local way of living. The sea breeze here is gentler than on Santa Monica’s open coast, but it still works on outdoor hardware: we assemble on stainless with correct torque and recommend a retighten at the start of each season.

Parking near Riviera Village is tight — tell us in the request where to stand, and we arrive at the door on time.

The old bungalows and Golden Hills

The surviving 1920s–40s cottages have that same plaster-over-lath in which anchors do not live: everything wall-mounted goes into detector-found studs. In Golden Hills on the Hermosa border the streets are narrow and steep: we arrive compact with the time budgeted.

And citywide — the California rule: tall furniture gets anchored to the wall. Dressers with straps, shelves with anchors — always, at no charge.

Frequently asked questions

A townhome with the bedroom on the third floor and a stairway with two turns.

Our standard Redondo. The bed goes up in the right orientation, and the wardrobe gets assembled upstairs in place.

The boxed king mattress does not clear the turn.

A frequent story: we unbox it downstairs and carry it bare — it bends and clears. We take the packaging.

A sofa for the second floor — I am afraid it will not fit.

Send the stair width and a photo of the turn before you buy — we will measure and answer.

A patio by the Esplanade and the hardware is turning orange.

The breeze at work. We swap to stainless, torque it right, and show you what to retighten each season.

When can you come?

Usually the same day.
