What we do in Whittier
The price is known before we leave the base. We do not bill by the hour and never re-quote on site because a job ran long. Minimum order $69.
Uptown: century homes and antique finds
Whittier was founded by Quakers, and the old part of town still carries it: Craftsman and Victorian homes from 1900–1930 around a living, walkable Uptown. We work in them by the rules of a hundred-year-old house:
- Behind the plaster is lath: we anchor only into detector-found studs, with one precise hole.
- Floors with a century of settling: casework gets leveled, or the doors and drawers develop opinions.
- We drill as little as possible and clean up down to the last shaving.
The antique shops of Uptown are their own joy: furniture without manuals comes to us from there regularly — 1940s dressers, disassembled sideboards, flea-market finds. The "Something else" position covers it: photo → price → careful assembly with no improvisation around rare hardware.
1987 is remembered here
The Whittier Narrows earthquake shook exactly these blocks, and the older generation knows well what a jolt does to an unanchored wardrobe. We anchor everything tall — dressers, shelves, wardrobes — always and at no charge. And we offer a dedicated anchor-everything visit: a walk through the house securing everything that stands "on its word of honor" — quick work, and especially needed in lath houses, where doing it right is harder than it looks.
Ranches and hills
East Whittier and the post-war blocks are single-story ranches with standard walls: fast, predictable work, a bedroom in one visit. Friendly Hills and Whittier Hills are slopes: inclined driveways, settled floors (shims under casework are mandatory), and uphill carries when delivery leaves the boxes below — we will bring them up; mention the steps.
